Gender

The success of agriculture and development initiatives is determined by how well they account for, and address, gender differences*

In rural and pastoral communities in low-and-middle-income countries, men and women have different social roles and responsibilities, cutting through all aspects of society, including livestock keeping. These differences directly influence the way livestock interventions can be implemented and sustained. Data and evidence on the interplay between gender and livestock development is relatively scarce. When specific data is scarce, contextual data on the role of women in society, may be a starting point. Good evidence is needed to predict and inform the role of gender in livestock projects, and to support initiatives aimed at achieving gender equality.
