Human nutrition

There is strong evidence of the importance of animal-source foods in supporting the diets of under-nourished people in poor countries. Eggs and milk, for example, provide essential vitamins and minerals for small children as well as pregnant and lactating women. There is further evidence that keeping livestock can improve dietary diversity directly as well as through increasing household incomes (source). Data on human nutrition and livestock is essential to support and inform initiatives aimed at improving food and nutrition security.
