2024 Reflections and new LD4D Impact Statement
Ana Miranda, LD4D Development Manager
Ana leads on the development of the LD4D network and delivery of outputs and outcomes. An economist with expertise in providing technical assistance to programmes targeting smallholder farming systems, Ana has worked as a monitoring and evaluation specialist for FAO and UNDP in different projects across Latin America and Africa. She has a MSc in Economics for Rural Development and a MA in Social Policy and Social Development from the University of Manchester.

Digital innovations: Highlighting our future direction for digital innovations in livestock development
Vanessa Meadu, LD4D Communications & Knowledge Exchange Specialist
Vanessa leads communications and knowledge exchange activities for SEBI-Livestock as well as for the Livestock Data for Decisions (LD4D) Community of Practice. She has a deep interest in sustainable development communications, particularly in the agricultural sector. She previously led communications for the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) based at the University of Copenhagen, and was a Communications Officer at the World Agroforestry Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

Julie Koehler is passionate about leading behaviour change processes that support deeper inclusion and gender integration within teams. As Head of Gender (Data in Livestock Development) at SEBI-Livestock, she leads collaborations that support the use of data towards transformative change. Julie has 20 years of experience in humanitarian response, development, and academia, and has worked to build and deliver systems, processes and structures that help integrate gender across portfolios from country teams to global initiatives. She has worked with teams across sectors and contexts to get past challenges and implement solutions. She is a convener of people and a facilitator of collaborative and empowering spaces.

Catherine Macharia-Mutie (Tanager)
Dr. Catherine Macharia-Mutie is a public health nutrition development professional. Currently, she is the Deputy Team Leader for the Impacting Gender and Nutrition through Innovative Technical Exchange in Agriculture Plus (IGNITE+) program implemented by Tanager and based in Kenya.
Sofanit Mesfin (Ripple Effect)
Sofanit Mesfin is the Gender & Social Inclusion Coordinator at Ripple Effect. Based in Addis Ababa, Sofanit's deep commitment to social impact was solidified during her 2015 Kenya volunteer experience with Ripple Effect. Witnessing the organization's transformative work, she dedicated her financial expertise to creating hope and meaningful change for communities in need.

Speaker: Gareth Salmon (SEBI-Livestock)
Gareth supports a range of SEBI-Livestock’s activities including monitoring and evaluation, the development of the livestockdata.org website, and research on livestock production and economic modelling. He has experience working with livestock production in Low- and Middle-Income Countries, and also practical experience of livestock farming in the UK. Gareth holds a PhD from The University of Edinburgh and Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), where he investigated productivity and GHG emissions intensity of Senegalese dairy production systems.

Giuseppe Tempio (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations)
Giuseppe Tempio is a biologist, specialised in ecological analysis, and a Livestock environmental impact analyst at FAO. He has been supporting FAO’s work on sustainable livestock agri-food systems since 2011, implementing the Global Livestock Environmental Assessment Model (GLEAM) to analyze environmental impacts from the livestock sector and evaluate mitigation options.
'Quantifying Ruminant Livestock Diets in Data Scarce Tropical Regions'
John Mutua (University of Edinburgh)
John is a PhD Candidate at the University of Edinburgh, researching livestock diets using geospatial techniques. Previously, he worked as a geospatial analyst at Alliance Bioversity International and CIAT. He holds a Master's in Climate Change Adaptation from University of Nairobi and a Bachelor's in Geography from Moi University, Kenya.
'Digestible energy values of the feed basket: challenges and proposed solutions in Africa region'
Séga Ndao (New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Centre)
Séga Ndao holds a PhD in animal science. Séga supports the New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Centre (NZAGRC) to implement a GHG inventory improvement programme in Africa. His work focuses on livestock GHG emissions reporting and mitigation. Séga also dedicates time to ensure that field research activities are tailored to meet inventory needs.

An Maria Omer Notenbaert is a land use planner with 25+ years of experience in Africa. Transitioning from spatial analysis to interdisciplinary system analysis, she now leads CIAT’s Tropical Forages team in Africa, advancing innovative projects on sustainable livestock production systems, integrating tools like CLEANED to optimize farm- and landscape-level environmental, economic and social sustainability.
'Measuring Livestock Feed Balance, Composition and Emissions'
Adegbola Tolulope Adesogan (University of Florida)
Dr. Adesogan is the Associate Vice President and Director, Global Food Systems Institute, IFAS, University of Florida and the E.T. and V.C. York Professor of International Agriculture. His research areas include using animal-source foods to improve human nutrition, health, incomes and livelihoods and evaluating strategies to sustainably improve animal performance and health. From 2015 to 2023, he was the Principal Investigator and Director of the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Livestock Systems at the University of Florida, which managed over 60 research for development projects that use animal-source foods to improve nutrition, health and incomes in nine African and Asian countries.

Carlos M. Gonzalez Fischer is a research associate at the Department of Global Development at Cornell University. Carlos’ work aims to improve the sustainability of agri-food systems. Recently, his research has focused on the livestock sector, healthy and sustainable diets, and the climate impact of food.
