Improving Gender & Social Inclusion in Livestock Development

In the April 2025 Conversations session, we were pleased to welcome Guest Speaker Sofanit Mesfin, Regional Gender and Social Inclusion Coordinator at Ripple Effect

Ripple Effect is an international organisation dedicated to empowering rural communities across six African countries to transform their lives. Through training and knowledge sharing, Ripple Effect supports farmers in sustainable agriculture, integrated livestock management, enterprise development, and gender and social inclusion.

Sofanit’s presentation highlighted transformative and adaptive programmes, emphasising on the role of farmers as the active agents for sustainable agriculture practices. Topics included:

  • Integrating Gender Equity in Projects – Effective strategies for project planning, implementation, and transformative methodologies
  • Household Tools for Gender & Social Inclusion – Practical approaches to bridging gender gaps (including the role of artificial insemination), and making gender involvement in livestock development more equitable
  • Gender Data Collection Tools – Key challenges and opportunities in gathering meaningful insights
