Criteria for New LD4D Steering Committee Members

Essential

Alignment and Commitment

  • Strong alignment with the LD4D’s mission and values
  • Capacity to commit time and expertise to actively shape the network’s strategic direction.

Experience and Expertise

  • Senior-level experience in livestock, agriculture or climate finance, ideally in executive, director, or equivalent roles where they have overseen programme or organizational development and growth.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic direction, including setting vision, long-term goals, and organization-wide priorities.
  • Experience working across low and middle income countries and with an international, multidisciplinary team to address global challenges.
  • Experience on advisory boards, steering committees, or other governance bodies

Funding and Donor Relations

  • Established relationships in the donor community, with the ability to leverage these connections to attract funding.
  • Experience establishing successful partnerships with various stakeholders, including private sector, government, international cooperation agencies.

Desirable

  • Extensive experience securing funding from diverse sources, including foundations, bilateral donors, corporate partners and multilateral agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a spokesperson at high-profile events, in media engagements, or in other public-facing roles
  • Familiarity with or experience in data-driven approaches and digital innovations in agriculture or livestock sectors.
  • A strong understanding of gender and social inclusion issues in livestock, agricultural development or climate finance.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Direction and Vision:

  • Contribute to defining a clear vision for the LD4D network.
  • Identify strategic activities and priorities that support the network's mission.
  • Provide advice on the implementation of strategic initiatives to enhance the network's impact.

Partnership Building:

  • Facilitate the establishment of partnerships across sectors, including private industry, government, and international agencies.
  • Promote collaborative initiatives that drive innovation and impact

Fundraising and Resource Mobilization:

  • Leverage professional networks to identify and secure funding opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Secretariat and other stakeholders to refine and implement the LD4D Financial Sustainability Strategy.
  • Provide insights and guidance on diversifying LD4D’s donor base, including corporate, multilateral, and foundation partnerships.

Governance and Oversight:

  • Work with other Steering Committee members to ensure robust governance and accountability mechanisms.
  • Participate in regular meetings (in-person and online) and provide input on key decisions affecting the network’s direction.

Representation and Outreach:

  • Act as a dedicated ambassador for the LD4D network, championing its mission, values, and contributions to stakeholders across sectors.
  • Represent the network at key events, including conferences, donor engagements, and high-level forums, to enhance its visibility and impact.

Expected Commitment

  • Attend four quarterly Steering Committee meetings annually.
  • Dedicate additional time as required to support fundraising and other strategic activities.
  • Engage in LD4D events and initiatives, including webinars and Solutions Groups.

Diversity and representation

  • We strongly encourage applications from experts based in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. We also welcome applications from female experts.

Selection Process

  • Open Call for Applications: Invite network members to apply by submitting a brief application or nomination, which includes a statement of interest and CV.
  • Targeted Invitations: Reach out to specific individuals who fit the ideal profile and invite them to apply. Ask SC members to suggest names that might fit the profile. Include an outline of the application process to maintain transparency.
  • Form review panel (e.g., existing committee members and LD4D Secretariat) to select applicants based on the criteria above. The selection process may also include short interviews.
