In this special webinar, EAT-Lancet 2.0 co-authors Mario Herrero and Daniel Mason D’Croz (Cornell University Food Systems and Global Change) will dive into the latest evidence on the role of livestock and animal-source foods in sustainable, healthy diets across different regions. Mario and Daniel led the modelling workstream for the EAT-Lancet Commission, bringing together complex data and analysis from a team of over 50 scientists worldwide.
The report addresses the critical question: "How can we feed a growing population without destroying the planet and people's health?" Its recommendations include specific adjustments for optimal consumption of animal-source foods tailored to regional contexts, with implications for the livestock sector in low- and middle-income countries, where animal agriculture plays a vital role in nutrition security, livelihoods, and economic development. The updated report incorporates new livestock production data, regional variations in animal-source food consumption patterns, and evidence on the role of animal agriculture in different food systems.
