Competition Guidelines
1. Please submit photographs depicting livestock development activities in low-and middle-income countries.
2. You may submit a maximum of 5 images in total, e.g., one photo per category or 5 images in just one category.
3. Each person may enter the competition only once.
4. Provide a title and a short description of the image (e.g., what it depicts, where it was taken, etc.) - in approximately 200 characters.
5. Include the photographer's name, their surname and organisation, as this information is essential for proper credit and copyright acknowledgment. Images without accurate authorship details cannot be accepted into the competition.
6. Please submit your own original photograph. You may also submit photographs taken by other people, provided that:
- You give proper credit to the photographer. You have informed them how their image will be used.
- You have obtained their written permission to submit their work to this photo competition.
7. Only authentic photographs are allowed - AI-generated images will not be accepted. Standard photo editing such as brightness, contrast, colour correction, cropping, and sharpening is permitted.
8. Please ensure you have consent from any identifiable people in the image to use their likeness, in line with GDPR regulations.
9. The Photo Competition is open exclusively to LD4D Network members. Everyone is warmly invited to join our LD4D Network. Please read more information about the LD4D Network Membership and join by completing this form: Join the LD4D Network.
IMPORTANT: When uploading your file, please name it with the with the image title you provided in the Photo Submission form. Do not include any author details in the file name.
How will the images be used?
This competition is a chance for Livestock Data for Decisions (LD4D) members to highlight their impactful work and showcase their achievements across our network connecting over 2000 livestock development professionals across 80 countries.
We request your consent to use submitted photographs in engagement activities for Livestock Data for Decisions (LD4D) and SEBI-Livestock, hosted by The University of Edinburgh.
By entering images to the LD4D Photo Competition you agree that winning images will be used to create the LD4D Digital Calendar 2026, which will be shared with the LD4D network.
By submitting to this competition, you allow LD4D to feature any images you enter and credit your work across our platforms—website, social media, newsletters, and campaigns. This showcases your projects across our global network.
If you are submitting a photo on behalf of a colleague or other person from your project, you confirm that you have obtained their written consent to enter their image(s) into this competition. This includes confirming that you have informed them about how the submitted images may be used, as outlined in the Photo Competition Guidelines which are available on the LD4D website in the link at the bottom of this section.
By entering the LD4D photo competition, you also confirm you have received consent from people appearing in the image(s) (for example: farmers, project workers, and anyone else appearing in your photo) for use of their likeness. They also consent for their image to be entered into this photo competition and used by LD4D and SEBI-Livestock in promotional activities as specified above.

How will we store your responses?
Your consent, provided in the LD4D Photo Competition Entry Form, will be securely stored on University of Edinburgh (UoE) servers. For more information, please visit The University of Edinburgh Records Management Framework.
Images entered into this competition will be saved and stored permanently on The University of Edinburgh servers.
Please be aware that the images on websites and social media can be viewed throughout the world and some countries may not provide the same level of protection to the rights of individuals as EU/UK legislation provides.
You can withdraw your consent at any time for the use of any photos submitted through this LD4D Photo Competition. To make a request, please contact LD4D@ed.ac.uk.
Guidelines for image quality
Please submit high-resolution images of at least 300 PPI and at least 3.5 megabytes (MB) in size to ensure good quality.
