ANI’s goal is to manage protected areas so that support themselves financially and drive sustainable development. ANI is developing a carbon project in Gashaka Gumti that utilizes fire and grazing management to regenerate the park’s forests and protect its ecosystems.

PositionClimate Mitigation Projects Finance, Sustainability Consultant and ResearcherRobert Galevo has consulted for a number of climate mitigation projects to register and trade Carbon Credits, Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOS) on Voluntary and Article 6.2 markets in Ghana and West Africa. These are afforestation (teak plantation) projects, wood waste to energy projects, solar irrigation and eco-friendly buildings projects to name a few. He holds an MPhil in Climate Change and Integrated Natural Resources Management, 2020, from the CSIR College of Science and Technology, Fumesua-Kumasi, Ghana.

Daniel Lamptey
PositionPrincipal Programme Officer, Ghana Environmental Protection Agency and Carbon Market OfficeDaniel Akwetey Lamptey has more than a decade of experience working with the Environmental Protection Agency of Ghana. He specialises in climate change, environmental impact assessment in addition to petroleum downstream policy and regulation. He currently works as a Principal Programme Officer at the Climate Change Unit and provides technical support to the Ghana Carbon Market Office. He is well versed in climate change issues and deeply involved in mitigation, low carbon development, adaptation, and climate finance focusing on the emerging carbon markets and non-market.

Francisco Obreque
PositionLead Rural Development Specialist, World BankFrancisco Obreque holds a Ph.D. in Rural Development Policies from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, and is a trained agronomist. A Chilean national, he specialises in policies, investments, and institutions that drive solutions for climate change and sustainable development. Since 2019, he has focused on Eastern and Southern Africa, at the intersection of agriculture, environment, and climate change. He is currently an advisor to the Regional Director. Prior to this, he worked extensively throughout Latin America.

As an anthropologist of governance and political economist focused on West Africa, he is also a research affiliate with Oxford University's School of Anthropology. While currently specializing in environmental and forest policy, his expertise spans policing, security, politics, heritage, culture, revenue, land, and infrastructure development across Nigeria and the broader region.

He is passionate about livestock policy, sustainable pasture production, sustainable grazing and land use practice, and contributing to food and nutrition security.

Leonardo Gava Mataram (Moderator)
PositionSenior Brazil Agriculture Transition Manager, Climate Bonds InitiativeLeonardo is responsible for coordinating the CBI Agriculture Transition Program in Brazil. He has been working with sustainable agriculture practices since his undergraduate studies, both in Brazil and Europe. His previous studies focused on the effects of climate change on the dynamics of plant pathogens, and how to manage those threats in a new, more efficient and sustainable way. He has considerable experience in Data Sciences applied in the development of digital products and management strategies in the AgTech sector. In this field he has been involved in the construction of many algorithms with applications in the agriculture market, such as predictive models of plant diseases and risk assessment tools. Leonardo holds a bachelor in Agronomy (UEL with mobility at INP-Toulouse) and a M.Sc. in Plant Pathology (ESALQ-USP).

About the Initiative
This webinar is part of the Scoping Climate-Smart Livestock Systems in Africa (SciCLiSA) project, which examines the potential development of agriculture-based carbon credit schemes in Brazilian livestock systems to inform similar initiatives in Africa, with an initial focus on Ghana and Nigeria.
The discussions are co-hosted by the University of Edinburgh’s Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Systems, the Livestock Data for Decisions network (LD4D), and the Centre for Centre For Tropical Livestock Genetics and Health (CTLGH). This Scoping Project is supported by the Climate-Smart Agriculture Partnership: UK-Brazil-Africa, which is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and delivered by Innovate UK.
